10 Movie Endings Way Darker Than You Realise
3. Barry Is Trapped In The Schumacherverse - The Flash
The Flash delivers one of the most genuinely surprising, WTF endings in recent memory, when Barry (Ezra Miller) seemingly returns to his present, only to meet up with Bruce Wayne and discover he's not played by Ben Affleck but... George Clooney.
While on the face of it this might seem like a mere goofy, nonsensical gag on which to end the film - a head-scratching closing moment to set up a potential sequel - it's actually much worse than that.
Just think about it - Barry has effectively been banished to the Schumacherverse of Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, which if not a horrifying enough prospect in of itself, suggests this reality is going to be very different from the one Barry knows.
Are Robin (Chris O'Donnell) and Batgirl (Alicia Silverstone) still working with Batman? What about the Justice League? And his dad? And does this universe even have an Iris West (Kiersey Clemons), or should Barry just forget about her completely?
Though there's no guarantee that Barry is stranded in this universe forever, considering we're never going to see the story followed up with Warner Bros. shutting down the DCEU, he might as well be. We're never going to find out how Barry got back to his own universe, if he even did.
The "Dr. Sam Beckett never returned home" vibes are strong with this one.
