20 Actors About To Give AMAZING Performances In Horror Movies
The upcoming performances that will define horror.
Horror has increasingly proven itself to be a safe space for talented actors to flex their acting chops in wildly unexpected ways, using the heightened nature of the genre to turn in some of their most unexpected and perhaps even career-defining work.
And with Amy Madigan's Best Supporting Actress Oscar win for Weapons earlier this year, perhaps the Academy is finally turning a corner given its historic tendency to under-value the genre's great acting work. We'll have to wait and see.
Either way, horror is one hell of an acting sandbox, and where its immediate future is concerned, these are the performances you absolutely need to keep on your radar.
These 20 actors, whether horror mainstays or total newcomers to the genre, seem pretty much guaranteed to deliver some of horror's finest acting work over the next year-or-so.
Whether playing the put-upon hero or having an absolute feast as the card-carrying villain, these actors are all about to act up a storm and perhaps even turn in a performance that causes the world to view them in an entirely new light...
20. Aaron Taylor-Johnson - Werwulf
Robert Eggers is one of the greatest horror directors working today, and a big part of his success rests on his typically note-perfect casting choices.
And so there are likely to be few folk taking umbrage with the casting of Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the cursed farmer-turned-lycanthrope in Eggers' new film Werwulf.
Taylor-Johnson, who previously appeared memorably in Eggers' Nosferatu, certainly harbours the inner intensity to do full justice to a man struggling to retain his sense of humanity, not to ignore how physically well-suited he is to the part of a man-beast.
Though Taylor-Johnson has had a few leading-man wobbles in recent years - most infamously Kraven the Hunter - his talent has shone through in innumerable roles over the past decade-plus, and it takes precious little imagination to see him knocking this one way out of the park.
And his presence here will surely cement him as an Eggers mainstay moving forward.
