The recent Oscar-winning drama The Power of the Dog stirred up quite the debate online, with more casual audiences seemingly left confused by its "ambiguous" ending.

Social media was quickly flooded with comments following the film's Netflix release as viewers debated whether or not Peter (Kodi Smit-McPhee) intentionally killed rancher Phil (Benedict Cumberbatch) by giving him a diseased cow hide, which in turn caused him to suffer a fatal infection.

There was a surprising amount of confusion and misunderstanding around the ending, even while others pointed out that, in the film's final scene, we quite literally see Peter carefully handling the lasso made from the diseased hide with gloves and placing it underneath his bed.

To hammer the point home, he even smiles as he sees his mother Rose (Kirsten Dunst) once again happy and healthy while free of Phil's cruel clutches.

And yet, many continue to profess that there's room for debate about whether Peter really was the cause of Phil's demise.
