10 Movie Facts You Probably Already Knew Deep Down
4. Michael Bay Recycled Footage From The Island - Transformers: Dark Of The Moon
Despite most of Michael Bay's movies having a budget close to the GDP of a small country, he's evidently not adverse to cutting corners and saving costs when necessary.
As such, Bay has been caught recycling footage from his previous movies a number of times, and while most of them are extremely tough to spot - like 6 Underground rehashing an exterior shot from Pain and Gain - there's one distinctive instance of cinematic recycling you probably did recognise.
During Transformers: Dark of the Moon's highway chase, the shot of a car being obliterated by a Decepticon is literally lifted from Bay's 2005 film The Island, where the very same car gets taken out by debris being catapulted into the road.
Bay simply took the shot and had the VFX team paint the Decepticon over the top of the debris to make it re-usable in a new context, and to be totally fair to him, it fits quite seamlessly into the sequence.
And this isn't the only instance - several other shots from The Island are slotted in throughout the scene.
If you've seen The Island more than once, there's a fairly decent chance you might catch a whiff of familiarity when watching the Transformers threequel.
