10 Movie Franchise Staples Nobody Actually Cares About
4. The T-800 - Terminator
Before you reach for the pitchfork, let's just clarify something - we all love Arnold Schwarzenegger, and there's no denying that the T-800 is his signature movie role.
Yet while he is the undeniable cornerstone on which the Terminator franchise was built, hasn't his involvement with the series felt a little...desperate for a good decade-plus?
Arnie's role in Terminator 3 was fun fan service - a few goofy excesses aside - but Terminator Salvation had to rely on a garish CGI puppet when Arnie was busy, and Genisys as a whole simply felt like a lame, cynical nostalgia-fuelled exercise.
Schwarzenegger is of course set to return for the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate, and while one hopes that this will be a torch-passing exercise for the franchise, it's also tough to imagine the series truly letting go of Arnold until he's no longer with us.
As iconic as his character may be, the franchise doesn't have a future with him, and the only way for it to grow is to cultivate interesting new heroes and villains rather than simply resting back on fan service for as long as Arnie's still alive.
It's really time for the series to move on from his character, and that's something even the hardcore crowd can probably agree on at this point.
