10 Movie Franchises That Actually Ended On A High

8. The Original Oceans Trilogy

Lord Of The Rings Aragorn
Warner Bros. Pictures

With Ocean's 13, we enter an interesting conundrum. See, this franchise isn't technically "over" yet, as a new (and VERY good) film bearing the Ocean's name just released about a year ago. But that film clearly wants to be its own thing, with only passing mention being made to the previous films. But in terms of the original 3 Ocean's movies, Ocean's 13 is still the ending.

And while as a standalone film, it doesn't really stand out, as an ending to a wild ride of a film series, it's amazing. On a basic level it does everything a good sequel needs to do, tying up loose ends while also opening up new ones that are either resolved by movie's end, or are left open for future movies.

Don't worry, this movie doesn't end in a cliffhanger, but it does end just open ended enough that a sequel wouldn't be out of the question. Or in the case with this franchise, a soft reboot.

While the future is unclear for this entertaining one-time king of the modern dad-movie franchise, this movie is still a really good way to bid farewell to Danny Ocean.
