10 Movie Franchises That (Almost) Destroyed Their Star
1. James Bond - Daniel Craig
But not even Twilight's insane fandom can quite match the intensity of playing one of the most iconic and popular characters in all of pop-culture: James Bond.
Daniel Craig was cast as 007 in 2005 amid much controversy due to the feeling that his shorter stature and blonde hair made him unsuitable for the role.
But of course, Craig weathered the press storm and proved his doubters wrong with his debut Casino Royale, which remains one of the most acclaimed Bond films to date.
And despite the inconsistent quality of the films that followed, Craig's performance has been perennially praised, even though the actor himself has acknowledged how much he loathes the intrusive press cycle of each film - not to mention getting into shape for the role (which he called "a drag").
Shortly before the release of Spectre, Craig famously commented that he'd "rather slash [his] wrists" than play Bond again, and that if he did sign on for a fifth Bond film, "it would only be for the money."
Ultimately Craig did shoot a fifth film, the impending No Time to Die, though he's certainly made it clear that he's looking forward to being done with playing the super-spy for good - and everything that comes with it.
