10 Movie Franchises That Can't Be Good Again (And Exactly Why)
5. DC Extended Universe
The franchise could've been up there with the God-quality content of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but things just haven't been good since 2017. A franchise that had unrivalled potential when you consider that it's boasting three of the most legendary superheroes of all time! But family disasters, bizarre casting and a tidal-wave of production complications just haven't been kind to this world!
Man of Steel started strong, showing us a version of Clark Kent who struck just the right balance of bravery and strength of a Kryptonian god and humble charm of the Smallville reporter. It was in 2014's much anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that things really began to fall apart. Despite treating fans to the most grizzled and powerful Batman we've seen in cinema, character motivations were just a shambles throughout the movie, leading to unconvincing conflicts and messy dialogue.
Who would have believed that was only the beginning of the train wreck? Compared to the disaster of tonal inconsistencies that plagued Justice League and the critically unpopular Suicide Squad, it's only 2017's Wonder Woman that stands out as a worthy contender for a great superhero movie. However, judging the franchise as a whole, the succession of failures has taken its toll on all hopes of the universe expanding, and some of its strongest qualities, Ben Affleck as Batman for one, have already detached themselves from future projects. Although there is still the Synder Cut of Justice League and Flashpoint movie with Ezra Miller to come, it's clear that the franchise is on its last legs, and even the unparalleled success of those projects wouldn't save it from the being viewed as a disaster.
