10 Movie Franchises That Have Backed Themselves Into A Corner
10. Introducing Mutt Williams - Indiana Jones
When you think about it, it's odd to think that Steven Spielberg legitimately thought that fans of Indiana Jones would accept the likes of Shia LaBeouf as a sort of "next generation" version of their favourite hero. Even if the movie makes a last minute "gag" about the fact that Harrison Ford's time isn't up just yet (LaBeouf's Mutt Williams attempts to put the iconic fedora on his head, only for Indy to snatch it away just in the nick of time), there's no denying that Kingdom of the Crystal literally feels like something akin to a "let's test the water" vehicle for Shia LaBeouf, who gets more to do than the titular hero. It's true to say that the risk didn't pay off; fans of the franchise were left shaking their heads when it turned out that Indy had been relegated to that of a "dad character." Having introduced Mutt Williams in Kingdom means, of course, t it would really odd if - come Indy 5 - he isn't anywhere to be seen. Indy would keep in contact with his son, after all - he's not a monster. So introducing the little creep now means that, should their be another installment, Spielberg and friends kind of have no choice but to include him. Which means that the movie will suffer on that principle alone.
