10 Movie Heroes Who Didn’t Know They Were The Villains

6. John Hammond - Jurassic Park

Captain Marvel
Universal

While I agree that the events of the first Jurassic Park (and the other films following) would never have happened if Nedry wasn't a greedy worm; there is an underlying fault that lies within everyone's favorite cheery grandpa.

The John Hammond we get in Steven Spielberg's film is a far-cry from the one in the original Michael Crichton novel. However the ethics and belligerent actions of both characters do appear in both media platforms.

Perhaps it's Richard Attenborough's delightfully gentle performance of John Hammond? But his actions and reasoning behind the film are overlooked in exchange for a loving, cheerful grandfather who explicitly spares no expense.

Dennis Nedry and "The Big One" are the closest the film comes to actual antagonists in the Jurassic Park, but John Hammond's tunnel vision is ultimately the deciding factor for what caused all the deaths.

His narrow-mindedness is displayed at its peak during the lunch scene (before it all goes to hell) in which every other character round the table tries to explain how dangerous breeding dinosaurs and manipulating nature can be.

John brushes them all off, insisting that his actions are justified, thus solidifying his naive attitude towards the genuine concerns of level-headed people.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
