10 Movie Heroes Who Fell For The Same S**t In The Sequel

Movie sequels can certainly be nothing more than cynical attempts to milk the cash-cow for every last cent, but the best sequels feel vital and, moreover, manage to move the main characters on in meaningful and gratifying ways.

But not all sequels are created equal, as we know all-too-well, and so it's far more common for characters to pick up the idiot ball and start running with it enthusiastically in the next movie.

Sometimes it's as simple as characters repeating the same mistakes they made the first time. Albert Einstein famously once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results," and that's precisely what these characters did.

These 10 movie characters failed to learn from their mostly understandable mistakes in one film, instead screwing things up all over again in the sequel(s) and basically making life so, so much harder for themselves in the process.

In reality, it was likely the result of a frustrated screenwriter who couldn't figure out another way to slot all the drama altogether, but that doesn't make it any less unsatisfying to watch...

Basically since its inception, the Halloween franchise has been fixated on the dynamic between masked murderer Michael Myers and beleaguered babysitter Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), with the original Halloween II controversially revealing Laurie to be Michael's younger sister.

But the 2018 Halloween, serving as a direct, continuity-rejigging sequel to the 1978 original, throws out the familial link and instead hinges around the radical, brilliant idea that Michael actually doesn't care about Laurie at all.

Laurie herself is depicted as a traumatised survivalist who has been waiting 40 years to have a final showdown with Michael, whereas to Michael she's basically nothing.

In fact, Laurie and Michael only end up facing off in Halloween 2018 because of a convoluted subplot where Dr. Sartain (Haluk Bilginer) effectively shoves Michael towards her.

The recently released sequel, Halloween Kills, sees Laurie basically make the same mistake. While she spends the bulk of the film lying in a hospital bed, once she learns that Michael is still alive, she again believes that he's on his way to the hospital to battle her.

As Laurie learns once more in the chilling ending, though, Michael didn't give her a second thought and just wanted to go home.

If Michael could ever say anything to Laurie, he'd probably quote Don Draper and tell her, "I don't think about you at all."
