10 Movie Heroes Who Were Secretly Just Awful

1. Peter Pan Resorts To Child Abduction - Peter Pan

Sorry to ruin your childhood, but Peter probably has the worst motivations of them all. One night Wendy tells her brothers John and Michael a tale of Peter Pan. Later they are visited in the nursery by Peter Pan himself, who teaches them to fly with the help of his pixie friend, Tinker Bell, and takes them with him to the island of Never Land.

That all sounds great, right? Until you consider that Peter Pan, once again – simply to avoid loneliness, has kidnapped three children and taken them to what is arguably an entirely different world.

Not only has Peter abducted three children to an island full of danger (including mermaids who try to drown Wendy, much to Peter’s amusement), but he has also brought them straight to the hunting grounds of Captain Hook – whose hand Peter had cut off at some point earlier, for which Hook was seeking revenge.

So now we’ve got a child abductor who has stolen a pirate’s hand (presumably just for being a much-hated adult), and yet Peter has been a hero to many since the 1950s.

Perhaps motivations don’t matter as much as we think.
