2. Dorothy - The Wizard of Oz

The Lie An innocent girl, a long way from home and family, her resourcefulness liberates an entire fictional world from a flying, green despot. The Reality The Wicked Witch of the West gets a lot of attention as the main villain in The Wizard of Oz, but what about Dorothy? The girl has no sympathy for the innocent old woman her dog terrorises as she cycles home each day from work. On the surface she's innocent as candy floss, but look a little deeper, and you'll find she's a spoiled, bratty teen. Back in Kansas, Dorothy spends her time sulking around the farm, complaining to the workers about how bored she is while they get their hands dirty. And by the time she lands in Oz, she's no better. Squashing a total stranger with her own house, her lack of remorse is astonishing. She also keeps a tight grip on the ruby slippers which she effectively stole from a dead woman's feet. Presumably the Witch wants them as a keepsake to remember her sister by, but Dorothy - monster that she is - refuses point-blank.
