10 Movie Moments That Should Make You Look Away (But Totally Gripped You)

6. Gassed - Midsommar

Midsommar Gassed
A24

Ari Aster’s second directorial feature begins with a heavy and hard-hitting introduction to the dread yet to follow in the rest of the film.

After receiving rather disturbing and extremely worrying messages from her sister Terri, Dani (Florence Pugh) becomes very concerned. Unlike Dani, however, Terri lives at home with their parents and mentions in her message to her sister that “mom and dad are coming too”. Horrifically, Terri kills both herself and her parents’ by filling the house with carbon monoxide. It’s dark, haunting and made all the more palpable by the shrill, anguish-ridden violin instrumental that accompanies the scene.

While the scene is certainly not easy to watch, it is a fantastic opening and immediately straps the viewer in for the events still to come.

Elliot Singleton hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
