10 Movie Moments You've Always Misunderstood

2. John Blake ISN'T Robin - The Dark Knight Rises

What Everybody Thinks

John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) inherits the mantle of Batman from Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) at the conclusion of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Saga, and when he meets with Bruce's lawyers to collect his loot, the clerk tells him that he should use his given name.

That name? Robin. Cue many assuming that Nolan was implying Blake would become Robin, and perhaps even star as the iconic sidekick in a future movie.

The Truth

No, no, no.

This was nothing more than a playful nod for fans, somewhat poking fun at the fact that Blake honestly looks more like a Robin than he does a Batman.

Everything we're presented with suggests that Blake will become the new Batman, creating a more idealistic iteration of the hero that Gotham truly deserves.

There's just no way in hell Blake inherits all that equipment only to become...Robin. It just doesn't make any sense and completely ignores the plainly comedic context of the Robin moment.
