10 Movie Mysteries That Will Likely Never Be Solved

8. Why Did The Birds Stop? - The Birds

In Bruges Colin Farrell
Universal Pictures

Alfred Hitchcock was nothing short of a master of his craft, and after the huge success of Psycho turned his attention to The Birds. The story makes villains out of ordinary birds who suddenly begin to viciously attack the humans around them.

Though not necessarily clear from the movie itself, Hitchcock did give reason for the birds' attacks. They resented the humans for taking nature for granted. What a powerful and terrifying message to send, but as creepy as the entire movie is, there is no part of it as unnerving as the ending.

Forget seeing characters pecked to within an inch of their lives, the scariest part of the movie is actually when the birds stopped. The Brenner family packed up the car to headed to San Francisco, but as they drove away the birds simply calmly watched them drive away. The chaos stopped as suddenly as it started, but for no discernable reason.

This ending is left open to interpretation, and is far more disturbing than any conclusive ending could have ever been.
