3. How Did The Joker Really Get His Scars? - The Dark Knight
There are truly some iconic moments within Heath Ledger's exemplary performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight. This is arguably the greatest iteration of any character in the comic book movie world, and though the actor didn't put a single foot wrong, some moments were more memorable than others.
Right up there with the likes of "Why so serious?" as a quote from the Clown Prince of Crime was the question he asked about his face. "You wanna know how I got these scars?"
He asked the question to three separate characters and gave two completely contradictory answers. He tells Gambol a chilling story about his drunk father taking a blade to the inside of his mouth, while Rachel Dawes gets an equally unsettling story in which he did it to himself as something of a show of support for his wife. The third time is when he asks Batman, but he never gets the chance to answer.
Even if he had given Bats a story, it likely would have been again completely different. At this point, the Joker doesn't care about how he got the scars. Hell, he may not even remember himself. This just drives home the chaos and unpredictability of the character.
