10 Movie Organisations That Really Needed A Better Union

1. HYDRA €“ Captain America: The First Avenger

Red Skull Cap Maybe it was just a product of the time. After all, the trade unions came in for some pretty heinous treatment under the National Socialists, and with Red Skull's HYDRA we're talking about Nazis that were too crazy even for the regular goose-steppers. Before you think about how terrifying that is, just take into account the size of their workforce. It appears that to work in HYDRA, you've got to be in two equally rare camps. Firstly, you've got to be too Nazi for the Nazis, and that's a mean feat in itself. Secondly, once that fanaticism is established, you've got to find people who are so open to ideas of the occult that they view them as reality. Now, though rare, I'm sure there are quite a few people like that even today €“ after all, this brand of mysticism is nothing new. Yet if you have to combine this with the other variable, you must concede that there isn't going to be that big a talent pool for recruitment. So as simple economics teaches us, when supply goes down, demand goes up, and that leaves the Red Skull's lackeys in a privileged position. Though HYDRA have a reasonably-sized army, they're up against the full wrath of the USA, so you can argue that troop turnover is going to be pretty damn heavy. This is especially true when the enemy has a collection of bushwhacking commandos and a supersoldier at their disposal. Yet still their boss treats them like cr*p, immolating them at the first hints of failure. Really, if I was in HYDRA, I wouldn't stand for this €“ I'm a very niche professional (and despicable human being) and there aren't many of me around. To be treated with such casual disdain by a man clearly not awash with troops €“ remember, he's been excommunicated from mainstream Nazism €“ is a little rich, so you could bet these guys could win a dispute if they mobilise, purely because they're so goddamned valuable. Of course, any legal proceedings could be interrupted by a man gallivanting in with a giant shield, but I guess that's the price you have to pay for your rights. So that's what I think. What do you think? Can you think of any more downtrodden movie workforces? As always, comment below!
