8. The Bank Casino Staff Oceans 13
When a film goes out of its way to set up a real-world businessman as a tool, you can bet your bottom dollar that they'll show him being mean to the staff. It's simple stuff really your average audience member (myself included) won't understand the majority of the financial gobbledigook which defines bad practice, so they need to see him betray some people and fire some lackeys. To his credit, Al Pacino does this with aplomb and looks like a mahogany chair while doing so. But still, can he really get away with his actions? I'd argue no. The film makes a big deal of showing it's his being a dick to his workers which partly leads to his downfall that concierge isn't hard to turn, after all, and the backroom staff appear to let the Malloy twins bumble about with impunity. Yet it's when he sacks the indoor poolboy for a broken filter claiming it's his fault because he should've fired him weeks ago that things take a turn for the litigious. Now this is probably the hardest point on the list, because Bank sort of has a point the guy did lightly screw up. However, he knew what he'd done wrong, which also implies he knew how to fix it, and would've done if Bank hadn't abruptly dismissed him. It just seemed as if it could've been a case of wrongful dismissal, because I highly doubt the guy can be sacked on the spot, without review, for a minor mechanical failure. So really, such hot-headedness could easily see him invoke the wroth of a landscapers union, and I imagine they're a pretty hardcore bunch of dudes, prone to all sorts of debauchery.
