10 Movie Origin Stories We Almost Got
3. Jesus Christ Was An Engineer - Prometheus
Much has been written about how Prometheus changed drastically from Jon Spaihts' original script to the less-Alien-centric version rewritten by Damon Lindelof at the behest of Ridley Scott.
But one of Scott's ideas which didn't actually make it into the final shooting script made an extremely provocative declaration, that Jesus Christ himself was an Engineer who was executed due to his supernatural abilities:
"If you look at it as an 'our children are misbehaving down there' scenario, there are moments where it looks like we've gone out of control, running around with armor and skirts, which of course would be the Roman Empire. And they were given a long run. A thousand years before their disintegration actually started to happen. And you can say, 'Let's send down one more of our emissaries to see if he can stop it.' Guess what? They crucified him."
It's ironic that, despite the film disappointing many fans with its total non-explanation of the Xenomorph's origins, Scott instead gave everyone the Jesus origin story they never even asked for.
And though Prometheus itself never confirms Christ's origin story, it also does nothing to conflict with Scott's comments either.
