10 Movie Passion Projects That Will Never Get Made
2. Guillermo Del Toro's At The Mountains Of Madness
Considering the sort of movies Guillermo del Toro gets to make, it's a surprise that there are projects he didn't get to realise. After all, this is the director of not one but two Hellboy films starring Ron Perlman in devilish make up along with Pacific Rim, a feature-length love letter to giant robot cartoons and Godzilla films starring Idribs Elba and him out of Sons Of Anarchy. In 2010 it was announced that he'd be helming an adaptation of HP Lovecraft's cosmic horror novel At The Mountains Of Madness, with James Cameron producing and sharing the ground breaking motion capture technology he'd used on Avatar to bring to life...well, however the gibbering horrors in that book were meant to look. Not long after Universal Pictures pumped the breaks, worried about the rising budget for an R-rated film that probably wasn't going to make a whole lot of money. Plus it didn't have a love story. Apparently he's still working on the film, but if ever comes out, it won't be in the form he envisioned.
