10 Movie Passion Projects That Will Never Get Made

4. Clair Noto€™s The Tourist

One of the most infamous unmade films in movie history €“ despite being made from a filmmaker few have heard of €“ the unrealised Tourist is one of the biggest wastes. Clair Noto's only produced work is an episode of the TV spin-off of the eighties vampire movie The Hunger, but her script for The Tourist was on of the hottest spec screenplays circulating tinsel town in the same decade. The film had a lot of The Man Who Fell To Earth in it, centring on a beautiful young advertising executive who was actually an alien from another world. Her and her extraterrestrial brethren try desperately to return to their home planet, the reason for their exile unclear. It's been compared to the themes of identity in Blade Runner and the barely-concealed sexual imagery in the Alien movies, with designer HR Giger actually working on the project for a spell. Francis Ford Coppola€™s Zoetrope Studios were working on the film before it went bust, and it never quite recovered (despite Noto's best efforts).
