10 Movie Plot Twists That Will TRAUMATIZE You

8. Megan Is Missing - What Happened To Megan

Megan is Missing Plot Twist
Anchor Bay

This one is a massive outlier, as this twist is traumatising, but not in a way that could be called satisfying. This 2011 found-footage horror went too far, and many viewers probably wish they hadn't watched it.

Megan (Rachel Quinn) and Amy (Amber Perkins) are best friends living in California. When Megan disappears after meeting a boy she met online, Amy frantically searches for her, eventually falling into the clutches of Megan's kidnapper, who turns out to be an internet predator posing as a teenage boy.

The final 20 minutes of the movie show what happened to the two girls, and it's horrendous. Amy is imprisoned in a dungeon, sexually abused and then forced into a barrel... which contains Megan's brutalized corpse. Amy is then buried alive with her best friend's body, while the villain gets away scot-free.

This is certainly an extreme plot turn and a rapid change from the rest of the film, which was fairly sedate by comparison, only making it all the more jarring and uncomfortable to sit through.
