10 Movie Plots Only Made Possible Through One Character's Utter Stupidity

7. Professor Frink Parks His Drill In A Silly Place €“ The Simpsons Movie

The Simpsons Movie Drill In perhaps the most obvious act of stupidity on this list, I give you Professor Frink and his propensity for parking incredibly useful machinery in horribly inconvenient places. Yeah, I get that it's the overly literal joke, but hot damn, I came here to over-analyse and that's exactly what I'm going to do. Now, we know from myriad episodes of The Simpsons that Frink has a large laboratory where he can hide all manner of crazy inventions, yet for the one time he'd ever need a drill that could cut through absolutely anything, he parks it right out in the open. I mean, even if a giant dome didn't descend upon the town, you'd still have the problem of carjacking, a crime which will always be exacerbated if the thief can now use an acid-spitting mega-drill. But Frink just leaves it there, incongruously in the middle of a field for no apparent reason. So really, if Frink had chosen to leave his drill somewhere logical, this would've been a far shorter and admittedly less hilarious film. As it was, he's partly responsible for the state of lawlessness which eventually envelops Springfield, a societal breakdown so thorough that the denizens of America's most famous town become too engrossed in pulling off a sub-Mad Max imitation-society to actually consider digging under their inadequate prison. However, that's a debate for another time, and one that could've been avoided had Frink used his big brain for parking savvy.
