10 Movie Props You Won't Believe Were Re-Used In Other Films
3. Alien's Re-Purposed Coffee Grinder - Back To The Future
This is absolutely a case where the subsequent use of a prop completely outshone its original cinematic utility.
You probably remember that Back to the Future ends with the shameless sequel-bait of Doc (Christopher Lloyd) returning from the future to warn Marty (Michael J. Fox) and Jennifer (Claudia Wells) about their troubled future kids.
And you might remember that Doc had to insert organic matter into the DeLorean's "Mr. Fusion" generator in order to power the time machine.
But you most likely had no idea that Mr. Fusion's receptacle was actually a re-purposed Krups coffee grinder, which simply had a Mr. Fusion name and logo slapped on it.
But weirder still, the Krups coffee grinder was used in another sci-fi classic some six years prior, with Ridley Scott's Alien featuring the device as a non-descript, futuristic kitchen appliance.
Granted, it's not likely it was the exact same coffee grinder in both productions, but the fact that both prop departments thought to use it in this fashion, seemingly independently no less, is low-key amazing.
