10 Movie Re-Castings That Ruined Iconic Characters
7. Pinhead - Hellraiser: Revelations
Original - Doug Bradley
Recast - Stephen Smith Collins
The supernatural gorefest, Hellraiser, blew audiences away with its sensational violence and its terrifying characters. As scary as the hellish Cenobites were, it was Doug Bradley's towering performance as Pinhead which enraptured audiences. Only appearing in the film for a few minutes, Pinhead still managed to make a lasting impression on viewers and the horror genre itself.
Even though the first two Hellraiser movies are solid, the follow-ups are borderline unwatchable. Nevertheless, Bradley never failed to give anything but 100% in every instalment. Even though his makeup and prosthetics made it hard for him to see and harder for him to move, he always seemed completely committed to the character.
But when he dropped out for the ninth entry, Hellraiser: Revelations, he was replaced with Stephen Smith Collins, with Fred Tatasciore performing the voice. Despite the fact Tatasciore is a titan in the voice-acting industry, he made Pinhead sound utterly bereft of menace. Collins is so forgettable, you wonder how he got the job in the first place. (Did the studio cast the first bald guy to audition?) Although Pinhead is usually the standout in a Hellraiser film, he was a detriment this time around.
