10 Movie Remakes Much Better Than The Original

1. The Thing (1982)

Sure, The Thing From Another World was a groundbreaking piece of science fiction when it first hit the big screen in the 50s, but it too often relied on snappy banter and dated politicking to achieve a strong, steady sense of terror. That's not to say it's not fascinating in its own right, as Howard Hawk's Cold War monster flick is the ideal popcorn movie for people who can tolerate B-movie antics. But most will be quick to credit John Carpenter's staggering, grim horror film as the one of the greatest remakes of all time. (Not just in the horror genre, either.) The tension is risen by roughly 1,000 percent, the effects are much more disturbing, and the cast is better-suited for translating the feeling of dread over to the audience. Audiences hadn't seen anything nearly as terrifying as this grotesque (yet strangely beautiful) alien with nearly impenetrable survival instincts on screen before, and the nature of the monster made it an unpredictable film in the best ways.
