10 Movie Remakes That Ripped Off Audiences

9. I Spit On Your Grave (2010)

Originally released in 1978 under the title Day Of The Woman, Meir Zarchi€™s I Spit On Your Grave wasn'€™t content just to use rape-revenge as a device to sell movie tickets, it also featured a 25 minute (in the uncut version) sequence where the same woman is attacked 3 times. Roger Ebert called the picture €œa vile bag of garbage€ while Kim Newman contended that it €œhas the distinction of being among the most loathsome films of all time.€ Sounds like a movie just begging for a reboot, doesn'€™t it?

Steven R Monroe'€™s version tones down the violence slightly, but it also dispenses with the pretensions towards being a €œfeminist€ movie that Zarchi swears was the point of his version. In order to capitalize on the €œTorture Porn€ fad, the film€™s heroine removes teeth with pliers, captures one victim in a bear trap and booby traps a shotgun in order to kill another. In fact, the movie does something far more loathsome than Zarchi€™s film €“ it turned rape-revenge into a franchise.

So far, two sequels have followed, both of which involve women hunting down male aggressors. If that appeals to you, help yourself.
