Here's an obvious but unforgettable one. Paul Walker died in a car accident in late 2013 while mid-way through shooting Furious 7, leaving Universal and director James Wan scrambling to figure out what to do.

After suspending filming for four months, the script was reworked to give Walker's character Brian O'Conner a send-off which "retired" the character.

And so, rather than have the movie end with a customary barbecue, the ending was instead fashioned as an emotional tribute to Walker, complete with a montage of his role throughout the series, and a parting shot of Brian and Dom (Vin Diesel) going their separate vehicular ways.

Considering it wouldn't have surprised anyone if Furious 7 was an abject mess following Walker's death, that it was reshaped into a genuinely affecting, loving farewell to Walker that also wrote Brian out of the series in a tasteful way is basically a cinematic miracle on Wan's part.
