10 Movie Scenes Everyone Always Gets Wrong

2. Black Widow Calls Herself A "Monster" For Being An Assassin - Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Avengers: Age of Ultron received a ton of blowback upon release as many fans took issue with the scene where Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) tells Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) that she was sterilised as part of the Black Widow program, only to follow up by calling herself a "monster."

While you can't really blame people for not giving Joss Whedon the benefit of the doubt here, and the scene absolutely could've been handled more tactfully, the intent isn't at all to imply she's an abomination because she can't bear children. To quote her exact dialogue:

"They sterilise you. It's efficient. One less thing to worry about. The one thing that might matter more than a mission. Makes everything easier. Even killing. You still think you're the only monster on the team?"

If you actually break down the exchange it's clear that Natasha is referring to herself as a monster only in the context of being a blunt object, a hired assassin shaped to murder people above all else.

If she's a monster at all, it's because of the countless people she's killed and all the "red in her ledger." Say what you will about Whedon, but even he wouldn't make such a blunt statement about sterility.
