10 Movie Scenes Everyone Gets Wrong

3. John's Dog Isn't Looking At John In The Graveyard - John Wick: Chapter 4

One of the most infuriating facets of modern cinema discourse is how so many fans can't just let their heroes stay dead. Even if they expire on screen, they need to come up with an explanation for how they could possibly have survived.

Case in point, John Wick: Chapter 4 ends with a mortally wounded John (Keanu Reeves) dying from wounds sustained during the climactic duel with the Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont.

Sure, we don't see him get decapitated, blown up, or thrown into a volcano or anything, but there's not much ambiguity about John keeling over, asking Winston (Ian McShane) to take him "home," and a memory of his late wife (Bridget Moynahan) flashing before his eyes.

All the same, many online maintain that the final scene, where Winston and the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne), visit John's grave, contains a telling clue that John is still alive.

The "evidence"? John's pitbull suddenly turns its head and looks off into the distance during one shot, which far too many fans have interpreted as the dog noticing John watching them in the distance.

No, just no.

While it's certainly possible that Lionsgate sees how much money Chapter 4 made and throws enough cash at Keanu Reeves to return for a fifth film, as this story was conceived and executed and until we're told otherwise, John Wick is definitely dead.

Folks don't want to hear it, but finality and stakes are a good thing in storytelling.
