Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man movie is jam-packed with delightfully cartoonish moments which feel ripped from the pages of the comic book, not least the unforgettable beat where a newly-heroic Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) improbably catches Mary Jane's (Kirsten Dunst) lunch tray after she slips over.

The prevailing assumption for years was that the shot was achieved primarily through CGI, with Maguire simply catching the tray while all of its contents were added digitally during post-production.

But the movie's DVD commentary actually confirmed that the scene was shot entirely in-camera, albeit with some relatively minor assistance.

For starters, Maguire had some sticky glued applied to his fingertips to help him grip the lunch tray easier, while all the objects were dropped from above by stagehands, with magnets helping them cling to the tray.

But the fundamentals of the scene were all Tobey, which he reportedly achieved after a staggering 156 takes.
