In isolation, it's not too difficult to see why the sight of Harrison Ford's quick-thinking Indiana Jones downing a sword-wielding foe with savage ease in Raiders of the Lost Ark sits as one of the most notable deaths in cinema history. As unexpected as it is brilliantly appropriate for the character of the no nonsense archeologist, the scene is easily as memorable, but for entirely different reasons, as the film's stunning opening boulder sequence.

However, the behind-the-scenes knowledge of Ford actually suffering from dysentery being the thing that forced this scene into existence only adds more charm to the eventual legendary gun shot. With Ford having to hit the bathroom every ten minutes or so, Steven Spielberg ultimately decided that instead of spending days trying to nail a highly intricate whip/sword-fighting exchange, the better call would be to just have Indy blast the sucker into next week with his pistol.

Not having to be asked twice about getting the whole ordeal over and done with, Ford happily obliged and gifted movie fans with a simply superb shot heard all around the world.
