10 Movie Scenes That Unexpectedly Confused Audiences

7. Aliens Or Mecha? - A.I. Artificial Intelligence

No Country For Old Men
Warner Bros.

An impressive number of people think that Steven Spielberg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence ends with childlike android David (Haley Joel Osment) being excavated from a glacial, far-future Coney Island by a race of aliens.

Except that's not quite true - the entities which pull David out of the ice are robots, or more specifically an evolved form of the humanoid Mecha encountered throughout the rest of the movie.

Though this isn't directly spoken in the film, it's nevertheless heavily implied, especially when we see the entities communicating telepathically, suggesting that they're descendants of the Mecha.

All the same, some casual moviegoers were led to believe the creatures were aliens, perhaps in part due to their bodies bearing a decent resemblance to stereotypical "grey" extraterrestrials.

While attentive viewers should appreciate that the group aren't aliens, it's a reasonable enough mistake to make during your first viewing.
