10 Movie Scenes That Went Completely Over The Top
8. Ian Ziering Dives Into A Shark's Mouth - Sharknado
Sharknado jokes started going around the watercooler even before the movie premiered, but it did do something for the Syfy network that no other show had done: it got an audience. Many tuned in to vibe on the first entry's so-bad-it's-good spirit and, for the most part, weren't disappointed. Though its diminished returns upon sequels make audiences forget just how much goodwill the original earned, there is plenty to get a kick out of Sharknado.
But it's also a bit of a bore, with almost a half-hour of character development that goes nowhere and a lot of drunk John Heard cashing a paycheck on a barstool. What makes it exceptional is how much payoff there is in the final act, from the junk science that would make Trump proud (explode the sharknadoes!) to the perfectly timed fall from helicopter-to-flying-shark's-mouth. Nothing stands out as much as the epic chain saw finale.
After all the sharknadoes are extinguished, a falling shark heads toward our hero (Ian Ziering). Well, it's falling, so he's sort of running toward it. He leaps toward it, trusted chain saw in tow, only to be swallowed whole by a poorly rendered CGI Great White. Seconds later, he's cutting through its innards, rescuing himself and helicopter girl.
We've seen so-bad-it's-good done wrong with Snakes on a Plane. This is how it was meant.
