10 Movie Scenes That Will Give You Vertigo
4. The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) - Dinosaur Cliffside Attack
This terrifying scene manages to turn being attacked by two Tyrannosaurus Rex into a secondary problem. Trapped inside a trailer on the edge of a cliff, Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), Dr. Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore) and Nick Van Owen (Vince Vaughn) are pushed over the edge by the dinosaurs, angry about the kidnapping of their child.
The trailer doesn’t go over completely and hangs down over the dark, moonlit, stormy ocean below. Sarah loses her grip and falls onto the window below, which starts to slowly crack under her weight, in an agonisingly tense sequence as the other two struggle to get to her without falling themselves.
The whole scene plays out from within the trailer, giving a sense of horrible claustrophobia, coupled with the constant swaying of the vehicle in the wind. This builds up until the glass finally breaks and Sarah falls, saved at the last minute by Ian.
While other scenes on this list have capitalized on clear, sunny backgrounds to emphasize how high they are, this one manages to do the same with a dark and stormy setting, just letting you glimpse how far the ocean is below, leaving the grisly potential impact of falling more to the imagination.
