10 Movie Sequels Better Than The Original

8. Mad Max: Fury Road

Ok, so this isn't a traditional sequel, but then Mad Max isn't a traditional franchise. Dubbed a "revisit" by director George Miller, it still takes place in the same universe and chronologically after Thunderdome, and yet it's quite unlike anything else.

That's true of the whole series really, with Mad Max 2 nothing like the first either - so much so you could even argue that's the first true Mad Max movie. But whatever you want to compare it to, Fury Road stands apart.

A relatively simple movie in terms of plot, which is basically one big chase sequence, the film never lets up for the entirety of its two-hour runtime, with Muller going all-out on the action front, topping not just his own movies but pretty much anything else in the genre.

It's blistering, intense, and unhinged movie where each stunt will leave you more flabbergasted than the last, but equally impressive is that it finds room for actual character work amongst and carnage, with Tom Hardy and particularly Charlize Theron giving powerful performances that help the chaos carry more impact and give us something worth investing in. It may have taken 30 years, but it was more than worth the wait.
