10 Movie Sequels Better Than The Original

4. Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Taut, fast, and utterly thrilling, the original Terminator is a superb starting point for a franchise that now has more bad movies than good, and still holds up rather well.

James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger wouldn't return until seven years later, but when they did come back it was for a movie that turned the series into something really special. T2 makes the bold but brilliant choice of making Arnie's character a hero rather than the villain, while Linda Hamilton became a fully-fledged action star.

With a vastly increased budget, Cameron was able to make use of some groundbreaking special effects that dazzled then and still do now, with Judgement Day featuring some of the finest set pieces on the big screen and an unrelenting pace for the entirety of its duration, but also making sure to pack in enough character moments, giving all the heroes much more depth in the process, that it's not simply skipping from one action sequence to the next.

Mixing great character drama with a thrilling chase and mesmerising spectacle, this is action cinema at its finest.
