10 Movie Sequels That Took 30 Years To Make

This is technically a smidge under 30 years, but close enough to be counted. Long after most Mad Max fans had given up on there ever being another sequel, franchise director George Miller finally started shooting Fury Road in 2012, though between a hellish production and extended post-production process, it was almost another three years before the film actually hit cinemas.

Even with a cast led by Tom Hardy (replacing Mel Gibson in the title role) and Charlize Theron, there was certainly plenty of pre-release concern that Fury Road might be another belated sequel that was ultimately too little, too late.

Was It Worth The Wait?

Emphatically yes. Despite its troubled production and reviews being held until the week of release, Fury Road actually turned out to be the best of the four Mad Max movies, largely thanks to Miller's stunning direction, the eye-watering visuals, thrilling action sequences, and fantastic performances (from Theron in particular).

In a move nobody could've ever expected, the film was nominated for 10 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director, winning six, which was more than any other film that year.

Though Miller was keen to move forward with a fifth film, plans have sadly stalled due to an ongoing pay dispute between Miller and Warner Bros.

Given that Miller is about to turn 75 years old, it's looking less and less likely that we'll get a new Mad Max under his steady direction.
