10 Movie Sequels That Were Basically The Same Movie
3. Addams Family Values
Addams Family Values may be more wildly satirical than its predecessor, but the basic setup of its story is virtually identical to that of the original.
The dramatic crux of both movies revolves around a scheming, duplicitous woman who plots to take advantage of Uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd) in order to fleece the Addams clan of their riches.
In the first Addams Family, it's con artist Abigail Craven (Elizabeth Wilson) using an amnesiac Fester to infiltrate the Addams' home, while in Values, it's new nanny Debbie Jellinsky (Joan Cusack), a serial killer who intends to marry Fester, kill the entire family, and make off with their wares.
Now in fairness, Values is quite arguably a much better film in every single way - in large part due to the phenomenal performances from Christina Ricci and Joan Cusack - but it's absolutely playing from its predecessor's hymn sheet, albeit in a slightly different key.
