Sticking with Robert Zemeckis' work, did you know the 1994 masterpiece Forrest Gump is based on a book? Did you also know that there's a sequel to that book? Well, now you do.

The story of Tom Hanks' happy-go-lucky accidental history-maker is well-known and much-loved by film fans, with several of Forrest's iconic quips passing into common parlance. If you've not yelled "Run, Forrest, Run" as a jogger has passed you by, you haven't lived.

The book Forrest Gump was written by Winston Groom and published in 1986. Nine years later, and just one year after the release of the film, Groom put out Gump and Co., the next chapter in Forrest's extraordinary life.

Whilst there were tentative plans to film Gump and Co., including scenes where he would meet O. J. Simpson and Princess Diana, they were ultimately left on the side, and the project was abandoned.

According to Hanks, serious discussions about a sequel only lasted "about 40 minutes". He would also go on to express how glad he was that he never signed a contract to reprise the character, as he was more than happy to leave Forrest's story alone.
