Bringing an end to arguably one of the finest movie trilogies of modern times with 2017's epic War for the Planet of the Apes, Matt Reeves' final chapter in the Andy Serkis-led Caesar tale felt like the sort of conclusion that would be a pretty tough act to follow for anyone.

But that's precisely what 20th Century Studios are reportedly setting out to do with the recent announcement of yet another Apes movie very much heading fans' way in the coming years.

Picking the story up "several years" after the ending of that last entry, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will star the likes of The Witcher's Freya Allen and The Orville's Peter Macon, with Owen Teague set to play the film's lead ape Cornelius (son of Serkis' Caesar).

Little else is known about what the flick will entail at this point. But the first image released by 20th Century Studios depicts Teague's Cornelius on a horse, set against the backdrop of a waterfall and ruins, as he greets an eagle about to land on his arm.

Maze Runner's Wes Ball will also be in charge of directing duties this time around, with the latest chapter in the long-running Apes saga making its way into theatres in 2024.
