10 Movie Showdowns That Totally Sucked

9. Susan & Daniel vs. The Sharks - Open Water

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0__eWU1N12c Open Water begins as a couple, Daniel Kintner (Daniel Travis) and Susan Watkins (Blanchard Ryan) go on a scuba diving holiday, but end up stranded in the ocean water, accidentally left behind by their group. At the film's climax, Daniel winds up being attacked by the sharks circling them and dies, while Susan is left to fend for herself. A brief cut to the group realising they have left the pair behind suggests a rescue is being mounted, while Susan becomes increasingly desperate, noticing the sharks are beginning to circle her now they've finished feeding on Daniel. The film doesn't end with a Jaws-inspired showdown against the sharks - either from Susan or the rescue squad - but instead, certainly more realistically, she simply removes her scuba gear and intentionally drowns herself, preferring that death over being ripped to pieces by sharks. Their video camera is later found in the stomach of a shark, making their final fates painfully clear. Still, it's a film that felt in search of a better ending, but lacked the budget to pull it off (the film only cost $130,000).
