9. A Million Dollars - Boiler Room
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfIKzReNDF4 Ben Affleck doesn't stick around in Boiler Room much longer than Alec Baldwin does in Glengarry Glen Ross, but both small parts are marked by stellar "work your tails off and you'll reap the rewards" speeches. Affleck's speech might not be as good as Baldwin's, but it'll definitely stick with you long after the movie is done with. Speaking to a room full of aspiring stockbrokers, Affleck's character first demonstrates his power by immediately firing someone, then he dangles promise to the remaining new employees by telling them that they "will make a million dollars within three years of your first day of employment at J.T. Marlin." After talking about how much money he's made he already has the crowd hooked, and he follows that up with the details of how hard they will all have to work. When he wraps up by suggesting that anyone who didn't like what they heard leave, it's spoken more like an easy exit for those who aren't man enough. But by that point it doesn't matter how hard they'll have to work - his words already have them all in.
