10 Movie Spinoffs Much Better Than The Franchise That Spawned Them

It was hardly a coincidence that Antonio Banderas' Puss in Boots was given his own spinoff once everyone had come to the agreement that the Shrek franchise had well and truly run out of steam after the succumbing to the law of diminishing returns by the time fourth entry Forever After had concluded.

While the first two still hold up, the creative well was drier than a Saharan summer after that, and there's only so far that cover versions of famous songs and pop culture references will get you before people stop caring. While Puss in Boots may have failed to reach the box office heights of the Shrek series, it still provided a much-needed shot in the arm for the flailing brand.

Light, breezy, mischievous and smarte than you'd think, the spinoff landed the best reviews that the extended animated universe had seen in a decade and elevated itself well above being labeled as a gimmick specifically designed to cash in on a franchise that was running on fumes.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
