10 Movie Spinoffs Much Better Than The Franchise That Spawned Them

7. Star Trek: First Contact

Star Trek has always had a reputation for being a bit hit-or-miss when it comes to the movies, but whether you prefer the original crew, the Next Generation gang or the J.J. Abrams-led reboots, most fans seem to be in agreement that First Contact is one of the Enterprise's finest outings.

Captain Picard's crew weren't given the best of big screen introductions in Generations, which awkwardly stitched the two iconic ensembles into the same movie with disappointingly mediocre results, but when they were given the chance to fly solo in First Contact the results were massively improved.

A small screen spinoff then spinning off again into a series of movies is a tricky balancing act to pull off, but the creative team managed it with aplomb, with the decision to use the Borg as villains turning out to be an inspired one. As mentioned previously, there's been more than a couple of great Stark Trek movies over the years, but First Contact deserves huge credit for overcoming the challenges of being a spinoff to a spinoff and still winning over both fans and critics alike.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
