10 Movie Therapists That Would Damage You Worse Than Before

3. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs

The Silence of the Lambs is a 1991 thriller with Jodi Foster, Anthony Hopkins and Ted Levine in the lead roles. Claire Starling (Foster) is given the assignment to interview Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins) a former psychiatrist with a taste for human flesh. Lecter would make a bad therapist seeing as he€™s a creepy to say the least and then there€™s the cannibalism thing. On a more interesting level the film deconstructs the patient-doctor set-up; Lecter treats Clarice like a patient, psychologically manipulating her whilst she treats him like a patient, reading and interpreting him for information about Buffalo Bill. There is another psychiatrist in this film, Dr. Chilton the asylum€™s chief administrator who is arguably just as messed up as Lecter. He uses violence and intimidation against his patients and he doesn€™t really present himself as someone you€™d want to confess your daddy issues too. He flirts with Starling when they first meet and he becomes increasingly jealous of Lecter€™s desire to confide in her, which leads him infiltrate their interviews. He also likes to tell visitors about the time Lecter mutilated a nurse so he€™s not one to put you at ease.
