10 Movie Trilogies That Are Absolutely Perfect
4. Planet Of The Apes
Due to the success of the original Planet of the Apes series, screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver came together to write a rebooted film trilogy about the great ape Caesar.
Though it took a while to get off the ground, the reboot proved to be worth the wait. The first film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, cast James Franco as a chemist attempting to cure Alzheimer's, and Andy Serkis as a motion-captured Caesar, who becomes increasingly intelligent after taking an experimental drug.
Rise made a thrilling and superbly acted origin story, whilst its sequels - Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes - only ramped up the action, character development and emotional impact with fascinating results.
Outside of the visual treats, expertly plotted storytelling and brilliant antagonists, the Planet of the Apes reboot is best seen for Serkis' Oscar-worthy (and criminally snubbed) role as Caesar, who holds the whole trilogy together with a level of humanity that easily surpasses the human characters around him.
