3. René Belloq & All The Nazis - Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Even if you can get over the fact that a Big Bang Theory episode infamously "ruined" Raiders of the Lost Ark for an entire generation of viewers - by suggesting Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) played no major role in the story's outcome - it's hard to deny how little involvement Indy had in the villains' demise.
Despite the expectation that an epic adventure yarn such as this would conclude with the hero actively foiling the cartoonish bad guys' plan, Raiders instead ends with Dr. René Belloq (Paul Freeman) and his Nazi comrades getting their heads exploded and faces melted off after voluntarily opening the Ark of the Covenant.
The only survivors, of course, are Indy and Marion (Karen Allen), who were unwilling witnesses to the entire thing yet had the good sense to keep their eyes closed.
It's an extra ironic demise for Belloq and co. when you consider that he only opened the Ark in order to test its power before passing it on to Adolf Hitler. Talk about a close call with history.
