10 Movie Villains Killed By Their Own Weapons
4. Lord Shen - Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011)
Much like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Kung Fu Panda 2 features an unusually dark and violent villain for an animated family movie. Not that that's a bad thing - but, in classic film tradition, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Shen's backstory establishes him as a power-hungry psycho from the outset, having laid waste to an entire panda civilisation when he heard a prophecy of a panda being his downfall. In the present, he seeks to overthrow China by means of a devastating projectile weapon.
Po and the Furious Five are sent to destroy the cannon, only to learn that there are dozens more elsewhere. At the same time, Po gradually recalls that Shen was the one who murdered his real parents, leaving him an orphan with no clue about his past.
The final showdown does not go well for the heroes, and, just as the victory looks to be Shen's for the taking, Po does the unthinkable, overcoming his trauma and achieving Inner Peace.
Now unable to be harmed by the weapons, Po hurls a projectile back at Lord Shen's boat, leaving the peacock bruised and beaten. Even in his final moments, Shen refuses to accept defeat; his sneak attack is foiled by the falling cannon, and he shuts his eyes as he knows his fate is sealed.
